Crystal Windows
Row houses, two-families and apartment buildings where value and local supply matter
There is a particular satisfaction in specifying a window that was extruded, assembled and glazed a few miles from the opening it will sit in. Crystal Window & Door Systems started in 1990 as a small operation in Flushing and grew into one of the larger fenestration manufacturers in the New York region, still headquartered in Queens.
For a borough of brick row houses, two-family homes and mid-rise apartment buildings, that proximity is not sentiment. It shortens the distance between a measurement and a delivered unit, and it means the company builds for exactly the housing stock we work in every day.
Who they are
Crystal was founded by the Chen family in Flushing and has manufactured in Queens since the start, expanding into additional plants while keeping its New York base. It is a vertically integrated manufacturer: it extrudes profile, fabricates units and ships them regionally.
The company's own positioning runs from single-family replacement work through to high-rise and multi-family projects, which is unusual — most residential brands do not carry that range, and most commercial suppliers do not do house-by-house replacement.
Materials and system families
Crystal builds in vinyl. Its residential catalogue is organised in numbered series — the 100 Series double-hung, the 300R single-hung replacement window designed to go into an existing frame, and the 800 Series for new construction openings.
Units are certified to the North American Fenestration Standard (AAMA/WDMA/CSA 101/I.S.2/A440) and third-party certified for performance, which is what a co-op board or a managing agent will usually want to see in writing.
Which properties it suits
- Brick row houses and attached homes where the openings are standard and the budget has a ceiling.
- Two-family and small apartment buildings replacing many openings at once, where unit consistency and supply matter more than bespoke detailing.
- Buildings with a board or managing agent that requires certified performance documentation.
- Owners who want the shortest supply chain available in Queens.
How it differs from the other brands here
Against Marvin, Pella and Andersen, Crystal is not competing on wood, historic profiles or bespoke shapes. It competes on price, on volume and on regional supply.
Against the European system houses on this list, it is a finished-product manufacturer rather than a profile system sold to fabricators — you buy a completed window, not a system to be built into one.
What to confirm for your own openings
A brand is a starting point, not a specification. Before Crystal Windows is the right answer for your home, a handful of details need to be settled at the opening itself.
- Which series within the brand is actually available for your opening size and configuration.
- Frame material and depth against the existing jamb, and whether the install is insert or full-frame.
- Glazing package — coatings, gas fill, laminated or acoustic glass for a busy street.
- Hardware, screens and finish, inside and out, so the window matches the room and the facade.
- Lead time from approved drawings to delivery, and what happens on install day.
